Hello Everyone!

From: newbiecat66 (newbiecat66@yahoo.com) | Date: 2006-10-03 17:40:07 UTC
I am new to this adventure. I had read an artical years ago abotu
Letterboxing and thought "I want to do that". Now, my sister and I are
starting out! I hope my teenage kids will join in the fun as a way for
us to do things together.
Any suggestions for were to start?

Hi Newbiecat66, welcome! The LBNA webmasters have put together a very
useful page with links to info to help you get started:
http://www.letterboxing.org/GettingStarted/
Also, I highly recommend you join the newboxers Yahoo group in addition
to this one.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/newboxers/
It's a list specifically designed for newbies, so you can get any and
all of your starting out questions answered and meet lots of other
boxers who are just starting out (and some veterans as well).

Beside the links listed below you can find a bunch of info listed in
the links section of the LbNA home page. I think it is
titled "Getting Started".
If you take the time to check out everything that is covered then
you will be ready to start.

Letterboxing.org:

Silent Doug's site:

Doug probably has the best info site on Hitchhikers and links to
regional chatlists.

AtlasQuest:
http://www.atlasquest.com/
Ryan has a link set up "Code of Conduct" that is really good for all
boxers to read

newboxers' group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/newboxers/
Where there is no dumb question, and is "the" place for many
newletterboxers.

Look at www.atlasquest.com Under the TOOLBOX - EVENTS you will see
gathers listed around the country -- speaking of which, where are you
from? There are regional Yahoo lists also.

If you like local history, cemetry boxes are good for this time of year. or several letterboxes at at time ( series) or great hikes in parks etc check out the clues and choose what is best for your group. I letterbox with my daughter (42) most of the time on Long Island, NY where we live. But with the others in my family when we visit in NH or Ct or on vacation in Maine etc. Our group ranges in ages from 73- my granddaughters 17 & 10 and my new grandson 3 weeks. Letterboxing is a great outdoor family event for us and a wonderfuf hobby for me now that I am retired.r

Welcome and enjoy.

Just a suggestion - you may want to think of a more long-term trail
name. Newbiecat66 fits now because you are new, but you probably
will not want that name when you are more experienced. Unless of
course, it has some other meaning for you. :)

In both AtlasQuest and Letterboxing.org, You can search for your area
by clicking on the maps they have there... very easy to use. I love it.
